Hack 1:  Do Not Go To Bed With Wet Hair

It may be the easiest way to hop into bed with your hair still damp from a shower, but it isn’t doing your hair any favors. Hair is more susceptible to damage when it’s wet, and tossing and turning during the night can tug on your locks and lead to breakage. If you really need to wash your hair before bed, try wrapping it up in a cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel to protect it during the night.

Hack 2: Opt For a Silk Pillowcase

While we’re talking about bedtime, another great way you can sleep your way to healthy hair is to upgrade your pillowcase from traditional cotton to a silk pillowcase. With less friction and pulling on the hair happening as you sleep, you can minimize breakage and frizz, and keep your hairstyle intact at the same time. While you’re loading up on silk products- a silk hair tie will do the same thing during the day! With less tension on your hair you can help avoid unnecessary split ends when having your hair pulled back.

Hack 3: Quit Overwashing Your Hair

Washing our hair too frequently can strip the scalp of its natural oils and throw off its pH balance in the process. Similarly as with our skin, a lack of oil causes more oil to be produced as a result which can leave your hair looking and feeling overly greasy. Worse, in the winter months when the hair is naturally looking for a bit more hydration, overwashing can leave your stands exposed to damage from styling. Try spacing out your washes to once or twice per week and using dry shampoo on the days in between.

We do want to treat the hair to some luxurious products, but going too heavy on the styling products doesn’t always result in better hair health. Regularly massaging the scalp not only feels great but can also work to encourage new, healthy hair growth and rebalance the scalp. Hack 6: Brush Your Hair Before You Shower And When You Condition

Running a brush through your hair before you hop in the shower will help to minimize breakage that can occur during the washing process. Remember, the best brushing routine starts from the ends of your hair, then moving upwards slightly higher each time to decrease the occurrence of frizz and broken ends. Then, while conditioning, use a wide-tooth comb to brush through again. This double brushing ritual both before and during washing will make the whole process easier on your hair. 

Hack 7: Ditch The Hot Water

A steaming hot shower might feel super relaxing, but it is definitely not helping your hair. High heat actually dehydrates the hair as it pulls out oils and moisture from the scalp. Warm is better than hot for washing hair and, if you can stand it, finish off with a burst of cold water to seal in the hair follicle post-wash.
